VIM Rules Regulations
ADMISSIONS
Must be 17 years of age and older with 9th grade or above reading & math skills to be eligible for admission. Students without a High School diploma or G.E.D must provide verification of a 9th grade or above reading & math skill level as approved by the state of Michigan or have successfully passed VIM’s entrance exam.
PAYMENT OF TUITION AND FEES
Applicants interested in attending the institute must submit a completed Vocational Institute of Michigan application along with a $25.00 application fee, $75.00 registration fee, and tuition as required. The application and registration fees are to be paid by credit card, cashier’s check or money order.
All tuition and fees paid by the applicant shall be refunded if the applicant is rejected by the school before enrollment. An application fee of not more than $25.00 may be retained by the school if the application is denied. All tuition and fees paid by the applicant shall be refunded if requested within three business days after signing a contract with the school. Once the three business days have elapsed no refunds will be given. All refunds shall be returned within 30 days.
Issue Resolution
Students with issues concerning the Vocational Institute of Michigan (VIM) training should contact VIM to resolve the issue. In the event that the issue has not been resolved by VIM students may contact the State of Michigan (www.Michps.net) for assistance.
EQUIPMENT FURNISHED
The student must furnish pens, pencils and a notebook. Training will be administered through text book and hands-on activities (Students will be responsible for purchasing their class text book). Computers are available for onsite classes; however students will need their own access to a computer for online courses. Virtual classes or tutoring require students to have a high speed internet connection (minimum of 256 kbps), speakers or a headset for receiving audio, and a microphone/headset or telephone for speaking to the class and asking questions. No other material and equipment will be necessary for each program.

ENROLLMENT PERIODS
Registration for class enrollment will be scheduled two weeks prior to the first day of class.
New and reentering (due to being expelled for unacceptable grades) students must be approved by administration before they are allowed to register for classes.
Programs, subject matter, and rules and regulations are subject to change at the discretion of the Vocational Institution of Michigan (In the occurrence of a change a new contract will be signed by the Vocational Institute of Michigan and students impacted by the change). Violations of rules and regulations may be cause for termination of contract with forfeiture of tuition paid.
Students may provide a transcript, government license (relative to student’s interested program), High School Diploma, or General Education Development Certificate (G.E.D.) which indicates sufficient knowledge to be exempt from taking portions of a school program. Please see the particular program’s prerequisite section you are interested in to determine eligibility for course exemption. The final decision is made by the school administration. Credit allowed for previous education and training must be approved by school administration.

Fees, tuition, courses, etc. are subject to change at the discretion of Administration. In the occurrence of a change a new contract will be signed by the Vocational Institute of Michigan and students impacted by the change.

TUITION
Tuition is found under the program section for each course. Programs are based upon “Clock Hours”.
All student cost will include tuition, application fee, and registration fee.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
The student must maintain a 2.0 cumulative G.P.A. and complete all courses. Upon completion of the program, a certificate of achievement will be awarded. No transcripts, certificates or other documentation will be issued unless the student has met all requirements of the school.
GRADING SYSTEM
Academic progress is reported to the student by mail or hand delivered reports at the end of each program. Any student maintaining a below 2.0 GPA average will be individually counseled.
PERFORMANCE CODES (grading scale)
A-Excellent = 90% -100% (4 Grade Points)
B-Superior = 80% – 89% (3 Grade Points)
C-Satisfactory = 70% – 79% (2 Grade Points)
D-Passing = 60% – 69% (1 Grade Point)
F-Failure = Below 60% (0 Grade Points)
I-Incomplete = See “1” Below
W-Withdrawn = See “2” Below
O-Audit = See “3” Below
1. All course requirements were not met at the time of grading. Incomplete grades may be given at the discretion of the Instructor. Incomplete grades must be removed within one year or it will be replaced with an “F” grade. All tuition and Fees will be forfeited in the event of an incomplete grade.
2. The “W” grade will be received by any student who withdraws before the midpoint of the course. A grade of “W” is not used to compute grade point averages. All tuition and Fees will be forfeited in the event of a Withdraw (W).
3. A student may elect to attend a course without receiving a grade that will affect his or her Grade Point Averages. The grade O” or audit grade will be received.
Attendance and RE‑ADMITTANCES
Attendance is crucial to successful completion of the programs; therefore we encourage students to not miss more than 4 absences. Upon four absences the student will be expelled and forfeit all tuition and fees. Three times being tardy in which a student arrives more than one hour late to class results in one absence. Any assignments missed in the absence of a student must be submitted to the instructor by the start of the next class to receive credit. Students may be re-admitted at the approval of the Director.
Calendar
School will be closed on New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day (January 20th), Easter Break (April 18, 19th,and 20th), Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The school will not be open the week between Christmas and New Years. Classes are held Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Classes continually begin due to short term programs.
AVERAGE AND MINIMUM GPA LEVEL ALLOWED
Students must have fulfilled the requirements of the program of which they were enrolled in maintaining at least a 2.0 GPA (Grade Point Average) to receive a VIM certificate.
Students who fail to maintain the proper GPA will not receive a certificate or letter of recommendation. If low GPA level is maintained for two consecutive courses they may be placed on academic probation.
If a student fails to improve his or her GPA to the 2.0 GPA level or above while on academic probation the student may be called before the administration and may be terminated from the institute.
Terminated students may be allowed to re-enter programs after one year of absence.
REPEATING A COURSE
Students who receive a letter grade below a “C” in any course will be allowed to repeat the course. The letter grade received after repeating the course will be averaged with the original course grade for purposes of GPA and academic transcript. (Tuition, registration, and application fees will be charged for repeated classes)
WITHDRAWALS AND REFUNDS
A student may withdraw from a program at anytime however the student shall submit a written request to verify his or her cancellation of enrollment and to facilitate the handling of any refund due. All withdraws initiated by the student are as follows:

DISMISSALS
Any student may be immediately dismissed for any of the following acts:
1. Unauthorized weapons
2. Disruptive conduct
3. Stealing
4. Vandalism
5. Falsification of documents (application registration etc.)
- Being under the influence of alcohol beverages or any non-prescribed controlled
substances.
All tuition and fees will be forfeited in the event of a dismissal and the student will not be able to enroll in any future programs.
Placement
It will be the responsibility of the student to find placement after graduating. At student request VIM will provide information pertaining to companies which assist with placement.
