Refrigeration Technician I
 
 

Students taking this course will receive education and training leading to a skilled trade certificate and knowledge that aid them in operating and maintaining facilities with limited refrigeration systems. They will also be prepared to sit for the 3rd class refrigeration operator examination at the city of Detroit or to earn an online trade certification. Prerequisites for this course required ninth grade reading and math.

What To Expect

The refrigeration technician I worker, (facility maintenance technician) is an entry level position. Workers at this level perform general facility maintenance and may be required to operate and maintain low pressure heating boilers, limited refrigeration systems, and furnaces. They also perform refrigeration technician duties and general maintenance. These workers maintain and repair machines, mechanical equipment, and buildings. They work on plumbing, electrical, and air-conditioning and heating systems.

Work Environment

General maintenance technicians often carry out many different tasks in a single day. They work at any number of locations, both indoor and outdoor. They work inside a single building, such as a public and private schools, municipal facilities, hotels or hospitals, or are responsible for the maintenance of many buildings, such as those in an apartment complex or college campus.

 

 

 

 

PREREQUISITES

Must have taken or currently be enrolled in the following internship class “RT-INT Refrigeration Internship”.
